Monday Randomness

I think I should do all my blogs like this, especially on days when I want to blog, but don't have anything particularly interesting to say!!  Today, I think I will just tell you some random things about me.  Some you may know, some you may not...

  • I can read a book a day, sometimes up to 5 books or more a week.
  • It doesn't bother me to stay at home, sometimes days at a time.
  • I had braces when I was pregnant with Colton, I was 28 when I had them put on.
  • I would rather see any movie with a paranormal or action theme over a chick flick.
  • I have never read a Graphic Novel, but I have bought the 1st Walking Dead Book, I just need to read it!
  • I don't like to leave the house without makeup, but sometimes I just don't want to bother...
  • I haven't been swimming in more than 5 years.
  • I am annoyed right now that it's taking my iPhone AGES to upload my pictures to Google+.
  • I only use Google+ to save my iPhone pictures and to occasionally plug my blogs.
  • I have wanted to write a book since I was in High School, maybe one day I will...
  • I absolutely can't leave the house in flip flops if my toe nails aren't painted.
  • I would pack up and move away from here in a minute if Jake would.
  • Of all the places I have visited, and there haven't been many, Seattle is the place I would most like to live.
  • I was engaged my Senior year of HS, man am I glad that didn't work out!
  • I don't have an IRL best friend, most of my friends are online.
  • My IRL best friend from HS is married to the guy I was engaged to in HS...I guess I don't have to tell you that we haven't been friends since 1992!
  • It was actually my fault that we broke up though...
  • I don't feel like I am in my mid-upper 30's.
  • The closer I get to it, the less old 40 is!
  • If American Idol had been around in the early to mid 90's I am pretty sure I would have auditioned.
  • I don't have any tattoo's but I desperately want one.  I want one by Dan Smith, though, so I doubt I will ever get one!
  • I never attended a public school in all my K-12 years.
  • I now work for a public school and I realize how much I missed out on.
Hmmmm....maybe that's all I will do.  I may make this a weekly thing, there are so many annoying things about me that I could tell you.  Maybe I will do one of Pet Peeves or something.  I like list posts, that would be something cool to do as well.

I don't want to not post any pictures, but like I said Google+ is being a pain and it hasn't uploaded anything from the past 4 days... Ok, I know what I will do.  Last night was the last episode of this seasons Game of Thrones, here are a couple pictures of my absolute favorite 'minor' characters this season.

I like him like this...NOT the face he showed at the end...I hope he comes back in the future.

Remember her from Downton Abbey?  I am hoping we see more of her (and Jon!) in the next season.  I still need to read the books though.  I am SO curious about the Wilding (zombies) at the end and I know that I am going to have to read the books to find out more about them.

Ok, that's all for now!  Have a great afternoon!

Playing Catch up...

I feel like I am really out of the loop, off my game, etc...  Ever since the kids got out of school 2 weeks early, things have been kind of chaos around here and my routine is all out of whack!  I picked up my kindle last night for literally the first time in over 3 weeks.  I even got a new book last week and I just started reading it last night.  My usual reading time is in the mornings with coffee and at night before bed, but I got caught up watching Stargate: Atlantis and I was staying up sometimes until 1:30am and then sleeping later in the mornings so that just shot my reading all to heck.  Normally I get into a book and I take my kindle and read any time I have a chance, but since I didn't have time to really get into anything I wasn't even doing that.  I sat last night and read for about an hour and a half so I am into the book now and hopefully getting back into my reading groove!  I have a handful of new books for series that I have been reading that I want to read now so I have to get back into it or I will be behind!

I made this yesterday in the hopes that it would jump start my reading and I guess it worked!   I was going to work on the last order I had fabric for and when I pulled out all the stuff I realized that I didn't have any white zippers and I needed 2 for the Kari Sling Bag that was on my schedule.  I have to make a zipper run today so I can get back on track.  I also got a shipment of fabric yesterday evening so I have work for the rest of the week now.  Anyway, back to the kindle sleeve...I bought three sample packs of Bari J scraps a few months ago.  Basically she takes the bits of leftover fabrics from the projects that she makes with each line and she packages them together with  buttons and little trinkets and sells them.  I got 3 different lines for like $6 each, they each had probably a yard of fabric in them.  Most of the fabric I used for this was from the Art Journal line, but I mixed in a couple fabrics from one of the other packs so I would have a little more variety.  I wanted something different and I was looking on Pinterest for ideas and ran across a gathered one like this and decided to try it out.  I LOVE it, I think it's my favorite of all the ones I have made and I have made 6-7 of them for myself now!  I love the summery colors.  I love making these when I have time, they are so fun and it's nice to have something new every once in awhile.  I still have a bunch of the fabric left too since the sides are pretty much made with scraps!

This past weekend since we got all caught up with Justified we decided to have a movie weekend.  We watched Piranha, Drive Angry, Clash of the Titans and Black Death.  Ok, I have to say that if we had seen the 1st two in 3D they may have been better!  I liked both of them, but Piranha was SUPER cheesy and I think that 3D would have saved some of it, but some of it was way over the top ridiculous.  That said, I really really like Steven R. McQueen, who is, in fact THE Steve McQueen's grandson.  He is also one of my favorite characters, Jeremy, on The Vampire Diaries.  He saved it for me and to be fair most of the cheese was not directly related to his story!  Drive Angry was less cheesy, but still would have been better in 3D.  I am a Nicholas Cage fan so I will pretty much watch anything he is in!  Clash of the Titans was on HBO last week so we set the DVR for it, I liked it, I can't believe it took me so long to see it though.  Black Death was not the best movie but it has Sean Bean in it and we watched it just after this weeks episode of Game of Thrones.  Speaking of Game of Thrones, Sunday is the finale and then the next week True Blood starts!!!  I can't wait, it's been a LONG year waiting for this season.  They are promising that Sookie and Eric fans will not be disappointed with episode 3 or 4, I can't remember which one, but they better live up to the book is all I have to say about that!

I have to make a list so I don't forget anything at Walmart and I won't have to delay work another day because I don't have everything I need!  I am going to my sisters tomorrow so all the kids can have a day to play be away from the house for a bit.  I am going to take my camera so I can take some pictures that aren't related to sewing!

Have a wonderful day!!

Books vs. their TV counterparts...

I LOVE books, but I also love TV and Movies.  I also like TV Shows and Movies that are made from books, but I can say that in almost 100% of cases (that I have seen and read), the books are much better than the TV/Movie versions.  I am sitting here thinking about it and the one case where I like the TV version better is The Vampire Diaries.  Don't get me wrong, I liked the books but I really like where the series has gone.  Pretty much the only thing that is similar to the books is that Stefan and Damon are brothers, they are Vampires and they both have a thing for Elena.  Even in the beginning that is the only thing that was similar other than the name of the town and the names of her friends.  Pretty much everything else is different.  Elena did live with her aunt, but she had a little sister not a teenage brother.  Alaric and her aunt were NOT an item.  NONE of her friends became vampire and Tyler was a class A jerk, but not a werewolf...there were NO werewolves in the books.  Now it seems like if you have vampires then it only stands to reason that you need werewolves too!  In the books I was on Team Stefan from the beginning...in the TV series I am very Team Damon, and because of that I am SO looking forward to Season 3!

We have been watching Game of Thrones on HBO and I am reading the book at the same time.  This is probably one of the best adaptations from book to screen that I have seen so far.  Some of the conversations are almost word for word and they are sticking very closely to the plot lines and even some of the minor stuff that is in the book.  Now, that said, last nights episode had a scene in it that was VERY much not in the book and it was very annoying.  So far the book has not been graphic as far as love scenes go, the TV show has added some to those scenes, but it is HBO and we know they are going to do that.  What I don't like is that they added a same sex couple to the story and wrote a whole scene into the story that just isn't there in the book.  The scene itself wasn't really graphic, just implied, but the fact that they added it at all makes me angry!  Loras is called the Knight of Flowers, but that has nothing to do with his orientation and in the book he is not gay and Lord Renly is not implied to be gay either, in fact, neither of them get much mention in the book at all really.  WHY did they need to add this to the story?  When they do this then it's something that they have to keep following through and it distorts the real story as they go down the line.

Point in case....Lafayette, in True Blood.  I am not pointing out that he is gay, and this has nothing to do with that fact.  Lafayette, was in fact, gay in the book.  Notice I said book and not books though!  Lafayette was killed in the final scene of the 1st book and his death sets up the story for the 2nd book.  Alan Ball decided NOT to follow this part of the book and now 3 seasons later we have a full running storyline for a character that is not part of any of the following books.  Now, we know that Alan has take many liberties with these stories and that's a whole other post!  My point is, that when you add in your own story or change something seemingly minor, it's something you have to follow through and when you do follow through it impacts the story that is true.

I am almost done with the 1st Game of Thrones book and I have to say that things are happening that will change this story in a BIG way.  I just hope that HBO and the people running the show see it through and stick to the story otherwise they will have a mess on their hands, at least as far as the readers are concerned.  George R.R. Martin doesn't care who you connect with as a reader and that's how it should be to make a good story, I think.  If you care about someone and they are killed you want to keep reading to make sure that they are avenged, etc...I will just say this because I don't want to spoil it for the watchers, I have connected with a handful of characters as I have read through this book and I am at the 92% mark of the book and 2 of those characters have been killed.  I don't like to see them gone, but it progresses the story and that's how it has to be. From what I hear, from another reader, George isn't done with the killing so I know there is more in store!  I just hope that the show stays true to the book, so far so good really.  I am anxious to see how they are going to fit it all in 10 episodes, I am not sure why they aren't doing 12, but oh well...

I have to say that although True Blood has strayed from the books quite a lot, it's still one of my favorite shows.  Book 4 was my favorite of all the books and so I hope that Season 4 does it justice.  It looks like he is sticking with the plot of Eric losing his memory so that's a step in the right direction.  We'll just have to see if he follows through!

A brand new week....

I have a pile of work that I need to get done this week!  I ended up getting quite a lot done last week, but I have been working on a couple of special projects that I need to have done really soon and I am going to be burning the midnight oil this week and next to get them done.  I think I am going to have to make a trip to Target for a BIG can of coffee!

I guess this means that I won't get to spend too much time watching TV this week.  There are a couple of my shows that I have to watch, like Vampire Diaries and Supernatural, the rest can wait though.  I am about 10 episodes behind on Smallville.  To say that I am glad this is the last season would be an understatement.  Don't get me wrong I like the show, but by the 10th season of a show like this it gets a little old.  So I am waiting until it's all over and then I will go and watch them all to the end.  Jake and I got all caught up on Dexter last night.   I know that everyone says that Season 4 is the best, but I think Season 5 was my favorite.  It seems that Julia Stiles one of those "love her/hate her" actresses, but I like her and I LOVED her character on the show .  I think the reason was that she brought out the emotions in Dexter that we haven't seen in the 4 previous seasons.  He seemed to just be going through the expected motions before, but I really think he evolved this season.  Now I do think that there were issues and other story lines that needed to be addressed that weren't for some reason, but overall I was happy.

Game of Thrones is another one of my favorite shows right now too.  I started reading the book right before the first episode aired. It's slow going because there is just so mush information in the book, but the show is very true to the book and I think they did an excellent job with the cast.  Jason Momoa plays Khal Drogo and he is one of my favorite characters even though he hasn't really had any lines yet!  He plays the "barbarian" type very well.  I also really like Sean Bean as Ned Stark and Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister.  HBO has already given it a 2nd season and I have read that the book for season 2 is pretty spectacular so we'll see!  I think I am going to read the books as the seasons are airing though, at this rate I will never get anything else read.  I have been working on this one for over a week now!

In Pink Punk news, I posted my May Specials yesterday.  They are all marked 10% off for the entire month.  The coupon code had been disabled for the time being, it's kind of a come and go thing.  I won't run it all the time, but I will put one up now and then as a special treat for my Facebook Fans.  If you want to get in on these little extra discounts and promotions you just need to be a fan on my Pink Punk Boutique page, that's where I post all the specials.

In light of all the stuff going on in the news today I just want to leave you with this verse that some of my friends have been posting on Facebook today.  I think that it's very appropriate today.
Proverbs 24:17-21 KJV  "Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him. Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked; For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out. My son, fear thou the Lord and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change."
